Why do we post our workouts every day for the world to see? Why do we give you the opportunity to do it without us? Now it stands to reason that we must offer something else, right? How can we pay the bills if we give away the secret? There are several answers to this.
First, the workouts aren't necessarily the secrets, the proper performance of the exercises is. As Coach Glassman, the founder of CrossFit has said, the magic is in the movements. Most of the exercises we prescribe are not your average, everyday exercises. Therefore, knowing how to do them correctly is not something that many people, even many personal trainers, are going to have knowledge of. Even exercises that seemingly are standard, like bodyweight squats and push-ups, are done horribly by most folks, fitness instructors included. That's where we come in. We've devoted ourselves to knowing them inside and out.
A second reason we're different is that a lot of the equipment we use is not in most other facilities. True, we don't have the expensive hip adduction machines, the cable crossover machines, or other machines that "isolate" muscle groups, uselessly I might add. Everything we do works more than one muscle group, which means more intensity, leading to more results. Period.
Another reason you should come see us is that many of these exercises aren't allowed in most "gyms". If you can't drop weights after a deadlift, if you can't hang rings, if you're not allowed to use chalk, if setting up a circuit upsets the help, if you can't go for a sprint outside and come back to find the equipment you set up waiting for you and not taken, that's a problem and a barrier to elite fitness. If you come back to the pull-up bar in the second round only to find a "poser" hangin' out there hittin' on a girl, or if your trainer interrupts you to tell you what you're doin' is unsafe and you should be on "that machine over there", then you really do need to find another place to workout. Oh, and for maximum motivation, you really need enough of all the stuff we use so that you and 2 or 10 of your compadres can do all this at the same time. Which brings us to the last point for today...
The camaraderie, motivation to excel, and encouragement from trainers/coaches as well as from those pushin' through with you can only be found at our place. No other fitness facility comes close. None of our athletes come with ear buds in their ears, or a music device at all, for that matter. And they don't read magazines while they workout. You can't go as hard as we do with stuff like that to worry about, anyway. There are high fives, shouts of encouragement, and mutual admiration from person to person on the drive to push yourself to the limit. When was the last time the guy on the leg curl machine next to you did that? Friends are made and elite fitness is forged.
Can you spot the spent CrossFitters?
So if you can't make it to where we are, then do what you can where you are. Just know that those that come see us usually don't go back. There's a reason for this, and the "Workout of the Day" is only a small part.
Have a nice weekend.
