Q: What do I do if I want to come see what this is all about?
A: Just contact us to schedule your free "Intro" session. This is a one-on-one opportunity with one of our coaches where you will learn more about CrossFit methodology, have your questions answered as well as expereince a sample CrossFit workout. You may also choose to come by and take a class for free. Or you can stop in to observe a class, but that wouldn't be as much fun.
Q: How do things work when I come to Triangle CrossFit? Do I just come in and start trying to do some of these exercises?
A: No. Most of the time, there will be "classes" going on at the scheduled times . In these classes, a coach will make sure you're warmed up, and will let the class know what the "Workout of the Day" is (see the home page). The coach will explain the workout, what is expected as far as correct performance, help athletes with any needed modifications and/or scaling, answer questions, and then start the workout for the group. Your coach will correct form or technique issues as the workout goes on, making sure you're working safely and effectively. Usually, your goal is to finish the prescribed amount of work as quickly as possible, which is a measurable component that can be compared to the next time the particular workout comes around. Be a consistent CrossFitter, and you will see improvements. The workouts are always varied, so you never know what you're going to be doing from one day to the next. Some days it's body weight exercises (like push ups and sit ups), some days there are weights involved (like deadlifts and military presses), with many other activities thrown in (sprints, medicine ball throws, rope climbs). All of this is scaled so that you can do it. Depending on how much time is left after the WOD, instruction in a particular skill will take place to make you safer, more efficient, and better overall.
Q: How long is a Triangle CrossFit Class?
A: Generally a class will last 45 to 60 minutes, including warm-up and cool-down. Athletes are expected to arrive on time and to stay for the full duration of the class. If you are one of the first athletes to finish a workout, it is expected that you stay to support your fellow CrossFitters that are finishing up. Leaving early is bad CrossFit etiquette.
Q: From looking everything over, don't I have to be in shape first?
A: Not at all! That's what we're here for. We've trained senior citizens and very overweight folks that have seen amazing results. Quickly, too. We "scale down" each workout to meet the abilities of anyone. We don't try to embarass or "show up" anyone, which would accomplish nothing. We're dedicated to getting you fitter and healthier. With our month-to-month memberships, we know results, along with a little fun and camaraderie, are the only things that are going to bring you back, not a contract.
Q: I was hooked on CrossFit after the first workout. How do I become a member?
A: Enroll in our "Get Started" program which includes the four required Elements classes followed by two months of 3x per week membership.
Q: So what will I learn in these Elements classes?
A: TCF's Elements classes include lecture, instruction, and practice. Participants will beome more familiar with CrossFit logic and methodology and receive instruction on the nine foundational exercises of CrossFit training that includes various presses and squats, deadlifts, and cleans. Other exercises involving kettlebells, rings, and additional equipment utilized in CrossFit training is also included.
Many "workout" a lifetime and never learn this much information. You will know all of it well after these classes, and will continue to improve upon that knowledge every time you join us for a workout.
Q: But I've been working out for years, and I'm pretty fit. Can't I skip the elements classes?
A: No. You must complete the four Elements classes before joining regular classes at Triangle CrossFit. Besides learning the form and technique of most CrossFit exercises, you will also be getting a workout in during this time. We can scale workouts up as easily as we can scale them down if your conditioning is outstanding. Anyone posessing a CrossFit certification will be allowed to forego these classes as well as anyone coming from another CrossFit affiliate that can demonstrate sufficient knowledge and accuracy of the movements.
Q: Why can't we just learn this stuff as we go?
A: Because we care about your safety, and we take great pride in the effectiveness of our program. CrossFit uses many complex movements that, when learned correctly, generate the maximum response from your body and dramatically reduce the chances of injury. Excellence is important to us. We can't say we are pursuing it while at the same time asking you to do movements you are not familiar with. Let's face it. At other "gyms", any individual can be shown how to stick a pin in a stack of weights on a machine. There's a higher level of instruction required to learn to do these exercises correctly. CrossFit certified coaches will be training you every step of the way to insure your progress. To spit out in depth instructions quickly right before an intense workout would not be fair to the newbie, or to others in the class who have already learned the skills.
Q: Speaking of paying for results, other local "gyms" charge as little as $20 a month. Why do you charge more?
A: Triangle CrossFit is more than just a "gym" We offer superior fitness coaching, not an overcrowded place for you to meander through and hope you're getting it right. Our coaching staff is highly trained and experienced. "Globo Gyms" do not offer a high level of attention and instruction with their "$20-a-month" memberships. Your $20 a month simply gets you in the door. YOU WILL GET COACHE D AND SEE RESULTS at Triangle CrossFit. Bottom Line. You get what you pay for.
Q: What if my schedule doesn't match the scheduled classes?
A: There are a few options. First of all, please let us know of a better time for a class. If three or more folks ask for it, we'll do our best to get it on the schedule. Next, we do offer Private Coaching, which might also be an option for those who aren't ready to work out with others yet, or are looking for extra attention when it comes to form and technique.
Q: If a Workout of the Day is posted everyday, why do I need to come to your gym?
A: Besides the fact that we already have all the equipment you'll ever need to do a CrossFit workout and the expertise to make sure you're doing it right, there are many other reasons to join our family. Read Worth It, an article by a fellow CrossFitter that didn't think he needed to go to a CrossFit gym until he visited one. Come try us, you'll love every minute of it.
Q: Do you offer team training?
A: Yes. We can make any athlete better, from wrestlers to cheerleaders, and cross country runners to football players. We offer team rates that make our program very affordable for participants. Contact us for more details.
