Sitting vs. Standing, Which is Better?

Which is better, standing or sitting while you work?

Standing burns more calories but there are more benefits to standing while you work. Standing burns approximately burns 0.15 more calories than sitting does. The muscle activity involved in standing is also associated with lower risks of strokes and heart attacks.

Standing for long periods of time isn’t always the best for people who have joint or vascular issues. However they should still not sit the whole time, it is better to move around than stand still for prolonged periods.

Sitting for prolonged periods can increase the load placed on the lumbar discs. Even standing for a portion of the day can help minimize this imbalance on the back and maintain better spinal alignment and muscle symmetry.
