Warm-ups and Cool-downs

Warmups and cool-downs generally involve doing physical activity at a slower pace to help increase your heart rate or decrease your heart rate.

.

Warming up helps to prepare your body for aerobic activity by gradually revving up your cardiovascular system by raising your body temperature and increasing the blood flow to your muscles. Warming up can also help reduce your muscle soreness.

.

Cooling down after a workout allows for your body to gradually recover to help prevent injuries. Cooling down helps decrease your heart rate after a workout to help the regulation of blood flow.

.

To properly warm up you want to focus on activities and movement patterns that follow the type of movements you are going to do in your workout. A warm up should cause mild sweating but not fatigue.

.

To properly cool down you want to do about the same movements as the warm up. Focus on activities and movements you did in your workout just do them at a slower pace.

.

If you are thinking about stretching it is best to do it after your muscles are already warm. Stretching can improve flexibility and range of motion for the joints. Stretching can also help become better at some activities and help decrease muscle soreness and stiffness.

.

Be kind to your body and find time for a regular warm up, aerobic exercise, and cool down!
